Langtonbury – Appleby-in-Westmorland

This beautiful traditional caravan is the perfect off-grid retreat. With spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and mountains, the cheerfully hand-painted caravan offers the epitome of tranquillity and peace. However, it is only a mile from the centre of Appleby, 14km from Brough Castle, and 19km from Whinfell Forest – perfect day trips if you can rouse yourself from the snoozy calm of this serene spot. A seating area, dining area, and kitchenette provide small utilities (toaster, stovetop, and kitchenware), whilst an outdoor dining area allows you to make the most of the spectacular scenery. A generator provides power, and a foot pump gives you water. The outdoor hot tub provides the most idyllic spot from which to stargaze on a clear night. Worth noting is that, due to the restrictions of this beautiful traditional caravan, there is no space for a cot or additional bed.

The village of Bowness on Solway, famous for being the start (or end, depending on your point of view) of Hadrianβs Wall, is a recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). On the shores of the Solway Coast, a haven for local bird life, you can wander the dunes taking in curlew, golden and grey plover, lapwings, and many more birds scattered across the salt marsh, sand dunes, shingle beds, and peat mosses. The village itself offers a pub, bistro, and tea room. With Carlisle within a half-hourβs drive, this is a great spot to compromise on a holiday replete with rural calm but also offering the buzz of the city. Choose from one of the four shepherd huts in the orchard, or opt for one of the luxurious 7 B&B rooms in the old farmhouse. The fully equipped gym is complimentary for guests, and the onsite bistro serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
