Wolf & Us Cafe and Gallery is an easy walk up the hill out of Silverdale or there is parking outside. The cafe’s location offers easy access to the town despite all the benefits of its beautiful rural situation. Whether you plan to visit and refuel as part of a coastal walk, browse the gift shop & gallery, or enjoy a coffee and cake, itβs well worth the visit.
The cafe and gallery were previously owned by next-door Wolf House, thus named for its view across the bay to Humphrey Head, where the last wolf in England was supposedly slain. The Fleetwood-Hesketh family coat of arms above Wolf Houseβs door, which features a stone-carved wolf and the rather cut-tooth family motto βhomo homini lupusβ (man is wolf to man).
Wolf & Us Silverdale – a real hidden gem
Local couple Ed and Jen have run Wolf & Us since 2017. They work hard to maintain their reputation for fab coffee and cake, as well as adding exciting new foodie offerings. Youβll feel like youβve stumbled upon a secluded, hidden gem here – despite the ongoing popularity of this Silverdale coffee and cake spot for both locals and visitors alike.
A start-point for Silverdale coastal walks
Nip in for a coffee, cake, or hearty bacon ciabatta before taking in the spectacular views across the bay. Head down the adjacent country lane to Jenny Brownβs Point for vistas over the serene waters of Morecambe Bay, stretching across the wetlands towards Leighton Moss RSPB nature reserve and back inland.
This area provides a mixed offering of woodland, field, and spectacular coastal scenery all in close proximity. Classed as the Silverdale & Arnside Area of Natural Beauty (AONB), the rambling opportunities are endless for both family-friendly walks and more challenging hikes. You might just find yourself looping back to the cafe afterwards for ice creams and more home-baked deliciousness!
Wolf & Us is ideally situated for walkers taking in the spectacular coastal walks around Morecambe Bay, just outside the Lake Districtβs borders. But itβs not only a spot for a quick refuel. Itβs also a destination in its own right. Once youβve visited, youβll likely plan more of your walks from this idyllic spot.
A tranquil & friendly space, whatever the weather
The Wolf & Us Cafe sits on quiet Lindeth Road. A sun-drenched, enclosed courtyard to the back appeals to customers, both young and old. Small wooden gazebos and picnic tables sit amongst verdant planting and surrounding trees, offering the perfect spot for a secluded brunch, lunch, or afternoon treat.
Dogs are welcome
As cheeky birds flit down to try their luck for crumbs, youβll hear the cows munching placidly in the surrounding fields, sheep bleating, chickens crowing from nearby Gibraltar Farm, and possibly a good-natured dog (dogs are welcome here).
Children are welcome and catered for
A small childrenβs play area featuring the ever-popular pirateβs ship, chalk wall and a selection of toys ensures that children enjoy the experience too. There are baby changing facilities in the toilet and highchairs available. Disabled access is possible via ramped access to the cafe’s rear, over the gravelled courtyard space.
In less hospitable weather, head inside the glassy, Scandi-inspired cafe space, where a wood burner burns through the coldest months. Flick through an Ottolenghi cookbook or Kinfolk journal whilst you wait for your order. Ed and Jen, the owners of this family-run local business, are always on hand for a chat.
The best coffee & cake in Silverdale
The style of food offered by the cafe matches the interior design – contemporary but unfussy. Ed cooks a modern menu of homemade hits. Wolf & Us is perfect for a spot of brunch, light lunch, or afternoon tea, and serves great coffees to boot.
Enjoy a great range of fabulous freshly baked cakes, from classics like carrot, coffee & walnut to more unusual offerings such as rose and pistachio. Freshly baked fruit scones and cinnamon buns add to the mouth-watering selection.
There are savoury options like avocado on sourdough toast, wholesome homemade soups and chowders, and hearty bacon or sausage ciabattas. All produce are sourced from local suppliers. The short menu caters to veggies and usually offers gluten-free and vegan options.
Wolf & Us uses coffee from stalwart Cumbrian roasters Carvetii, so youβre sure to get your caffeine fix satisfied.
Wolf House Gallery & Gift Shop
Feeling replenished, nip over the courtyard to Wolf House Gallery for a browse. Full of enticing items from local artists & suppliers. Pick up hand-printed cards, house plants, jewellery, candles, ceramics, sculptures, and more.
Jenβs lifestyle photography background is clear from how Wolf & Us is curated – so stylish and Minimalist, yet homely and hygge. The Gallery exudes the same Scandi simplicity. Itβs the perfect place to pick up a holiday souvenir or gift, or simply enjoy a browse.
Wolf & Us Takeaway: evening options
Keep an eye out for Wolf & Usβ pop-up & pre-order evening offerings. Over the winter, they offered weekly takeaway butter pastry pies and sides to collect. These pastries featured mouth-watering options like chicken & ham, or slow-roasted leek & mushroom in a tarragon sauce. Wood-fired pizzas are the perfect takeaway too, grab one and head down to the shore for a sublime sunset over the millpond-still bay.
Throughout the year, they regularly offer a Friday βFry Dayβ takeaway pre-order service. The menu offers up everything from classic fish & chips to salt & pepper squid and chilli crab arancini.
As a small, family-run business, the availability of their evening options changes throughout the year, as do their opening hours. Their offering is constantly evolving, too, so itβs worth keeping an eye on the Wolf & Us Facebook page or signing up for their email newsletter.
